Vision Experiment
(EXP1)

An Internet Experiment

The Vision Experiment (EXP1) investigates observers' ability to assess the orientation of F15 and F16 aircraft. The experiment creates four balanced test groups varying the nature and extent of training in each. All subjects participate in three sessions. The second follows the first by a week, and the third follows the first by a month. Subjects receive an email message inviting them back for these sessions. The email is generated automatically according to the date of the initial session. Experimental results are stored in a number of tables in a database. A procedure is provided for extracting results as a series of tab delimited ASCII records.

The experiment is delivered via the Internet (or an Intranet) and consists of both server and client side components. The system is based on Java Server Page (JSP) technology and is hosted by the open source Tomcat JSP server. Additional components are written in HTML, Java, and JavaScript.
