SUSOPS in JAVA

Canadian Forces (CF) operations often require personnel to work for extended periods while doing mentally demanding tasks. Mental performance can decline dramatically in sustained operations, compromising the ability of personnel to perform their duties. Sustained Operations (SUSOPS) research was established at the Information Processing Sector of DCIEM to investigate both individual and group performance in sustained operations.

SUSOPS was first developed as a multi-subject test platform by NTT Systems Inc. on a PDP"-1"1. It was reimplemented under VAX/VMS. The latter, including upgrades and enhancements, has been the workhorse for sustained operations and sleep deprivation research at DCIEM for over ten years. The task battery was converted to VisualBasic and a new Windows based single-subject system was produced.

This version of SUSOPS reintroduces the ability to control and monitor multiple subjects while keeping the existing VisualBasic task battery. The following is a screen shot of the Console:

All dispatching, control and monitoring and recovery features are implemented in JAVA. For technical specifications, see Software Overview.
