DigiPlay

After DigiStamp determines the timing of speech for each subject in a DCIEM TANDEM experiment, this data is read in by MacSHAPA as a spreadsheet. The spreadsheets do not contain the content of the utterances, just their times. Many kinds of analysis require access to the content of the utterances, either in their original audio form or transcribed to text.

MacSHAPA supports control of video tape players using remote control video software and cables. NTT Systems' provided a better solution, however, in the DigiPlay program, written in LabVIEW. The audio is digitised, and played back by DigiPlay, on demand from MacSHAPA. So the experimenter analysing the dialogue has immediate, easy access to the actual audio while performing, analysis on the spreadsheet.

Below is a screenshot, showing the spreadsheet in the background, a kind of utterance schedule for the three speakers. DigiPlay in the foreground, plays the digitised audio under communication (through a script) with MacSHAPA.
