Air Quality Management System
(AQMS)

Making It Easy to Do the Right Thing

All organizations that own compressors that produce breathing gas are required to have gas samples tested regularly. The Air Quality Management System (AQMS) facilitates this for Canada's Department of Defence Fire Marshal's Office. It monitors service schedules, and mediates requests for sample cylinders and the distribution of analysis results.

The AQMS is a bilingual system. All language dependent texts are referenced indirectly and appropriate localized strings are substituted from a database. Maintenance personnel can update language text without having to modify the HTML files themselves.

There are four primary classes of users, Anonymous, Technician, Fire Chief, and Manager. They have increasing capabilities. Anonymous users sign on to a location and can get information. Technicians can order sample cylinders at their location. Fire Chiefs can additionally edit information for compressors at their location and move compressors to and within their location. Managers will be able to act on behalf of the base Fire Chief. They can add new compressors, move them anywhere, and retire or temporarily remove them from service. All classes of users can review published sample reports and sample data for compressors at their location.

The AQMS provides timely notification with unattended operation. Information will be pushed to relevant parties when the recipient can be determined and has a known email address. Sample results will have to be pulled (requested) by other base personnel whose addresses are unknown.

The AQMS supports Web-based system maintenance and administration. The Fire Marshal's office and all bases are behind the DWAN firewall. The gas analysis company is outside the corporate firewall.

The AQMS facilitates communication between all users. Requests are automatically forewarded to the analysis company, and results are automatically retrieved by FTP.
