Aha! was created to help researchers deal with the messy and time-consuming problem of organizing multi-channel, time-series physiological and engineering data. The difficulties come from two directions: one is simply the volume of data collected at rates varying from fractional to kilo-Hz rates. The other is that in multi-subject runs or repeated trial designs, data is frequently skewed in time from run to run or trial to trial. This makes it difficult to visualize the data in terms of the experimental manipulations; and, simply extracting data for analysis becomes tedious and time-consuming.
Aha! provides researchers with a variety of tools that lets them easily visualize data -- across subjects and across channels. A graphical facility makes identifying periods of interest (i.e., bounding manipulations) fast and easy. Once this is done, data for the entire experiment can be organized in a graphical view that lays out runs, manipulations, and analysis functions. Data planes can be easily extracted an imported into virtually any analytical tool.
Aha! was presented at the 14th International Academy of Astronautics Humans in Space Symposium (Banff, Canada, 2003). Click here to view a web version of the PowerPoint presentation. It describes the rationale behind Aha! and presents an overview of its features.
